Controlling Panic Attacks – It’s Easier Than You Think!
Controlling panic attacks can be quite a challenge since when you’re experiencing one you feel nothing but a complete lack of control, but there are ways to get your body back into a more relaxed state. If you’re tired of feeling powerless each time you feel anxiety coming on, here are some killer tactics you can put to work:
1. The 7-11 Technique
Controlling panic attacks doesn’t have to be that difficult, it can be as easy as changing your breathing. Your breathing has the power to control what kind of state you are in, everything flows from your breath. With that in mind, while you are experiencing a state of panic, try regulating your breathing by inhaling for a 7 second count, then exhaling for 11 seconds. This will get your body into a calmer body rhythm the more you do it. Keep doing this as best you can and in time you will eventually calm down.
2. Start Up Your iPOD
One great way to manage anxiety is by changing your state through listening to some calming music. Music has the power to change our emotional state in an instant, so if you’re feeling stressed out and panicky, load up some relaxing songs onto your iPOD or some rushing water tapes, you’ll be surprised how well this can work, especially if you shut your eyes while you listen.
In the end though, the truth is you don’t want to be controlling panic attacks because feeling a need to be in control at all times is what gets you into an anxious state to begin with. This is what is taught in Panic Away by Joe Barry, it’s a book which has sold over 27,000 copies and teaches the “One Move Technique”, a way of eliminating panic attacks before they can even start up.
