Panic Attacks At Night - How To Deal With Them

Want to know what the deal is behind panic attacks at night?  Well over 50% of panic attack sufferers experience an attack at night although it only makes up about 10% of the overall attacks.  Many fear this form of attack because it happens when you are most vulnerable, asleep in your bed and there is a concern that you may die in your sleep(by the way, there has never been a case of this happening).

So what can you do to cope with panic attacks at night?

1.    Go To Bed When You’re Tired

The first thing you can do is only head to bed when you are completely tired.  If you are not tired by the time you lay down, you may toss and turn and wind up getting a panic attack.  If however you exhaust yourself by say a late night cardio session before bed, you will hit the bed like a log and sleep without incidence.

2.    Cut Out Caffeine And Sugar

I know in my case, taking a lot of sugar and caffeine kept me up at night and sometimes I would lie in bed for quite some time unable to fall asleep because I’d be all jittery.  I’d then end up getting a panic attack as a direct result.  So cut out the caffeine and sugar from your diet to ensure you can fall asleep more readily.

3.    Soothe Yourself With Some Aroma Therapy
Before you head to bed, try having a soothing bath with some lavender oil placed in the bath water.  This will reduce your anxiety and get you ready for a nice uninterrupted sleep.
